LED string lights rely on electronics
LED string lights incorporate the latest technology in light bulbs and
rely on electronics rather than environmentally unfriendly electricity.
LED stands for light emitting diode. Diodes are electronic devices that are made from a semi-conductive material
like silicon. LEDs are semi-conducting diodes that have a higher electrical resistance than normal. In case you
don’t know anything about electricity, resistance is the ability of a conductor to resist or oppose the flow of an
electric current through it. All of the components in an electric circuit have a certain resistance to current.
LEDs also produce light instead of heat and they are electronic components. This means that they work with very
small electric currents that can be run with solar power or an electrical connection.

The very first LEDs were used to display letters and numbers in digital instruments, like calculators, digital
watches and hi-fi equipment. They were also used (and still are) for appliances, to show when the appliance was
switched on.
The very first LEDs were red, which limited their use. When it came to string or rope lights, incandescent
bulbs, that were electrically powered, were favored because the light the bulbs produced was white. By making the
bulbs with different colored glass, manufacturers were able to create strings with lots of different colors. Now
that LEDs are made in different colors (including red, white, blue and green) they are used to make LED string
lights.
The first generation white LEDs were not very bright, but those available today are as
bright as any other type of electric light.
There are lots of different types of LED string lights available now, with LEDs that are made in different
shapes and sizes. LED Christmas lights are available with anything from 50
to more than 100 LEDs attached and are perfect for lining structural elements like doors, windows, decks and for
wrapping around trees in the garden. They are also ideal for decorating Christmas trees whether they are located
indoors or outside.
LED string lights are usually solar-powered which means there is no electric cabling involved. This means there
is no installation involved and no power bills to worry about. A good quality kit will include rechargeable
batteries, a stand-alone solar panel that you can mount on a ground stake or on the wall, all the mounting hardware
you need, and an instruction manual that will tell you exactly how to mount the panel and use the lights. More on

Good quality LED string lights will also have automatic light sensors so that the lights will shine from sunset
until the sun rises the next day. Then the solar panel automatically recharges the batteries, and the cycle
continues.
Of course there are also many other types of solar Christmas lights that you can use in
your garden and in your home. Garden lights include both wall-mounted and hand held lanterns, solar spotlights,
floodlights and a range of solar post lights. These also come with their own individual solar panels. In addition,
you will find a whole lot of other feature lights like solar rock spots and even natty floating solar lights that
look great floating in a swimming pool. Check our selection of solar string lights and solar rope lights
